Product Overview
NIMBO provides Earth observation basemaps and elevation data designed for GIS, analytics, and environmental monitoring at global scale.
Every month, new mosaics are generated from Sentinel satellite imagery from the Copernicus programme, producing consistent, cloud-free and harmonized imagery — ready to use, without any pre-processing.
NIMBO Basemaps - 10m
Section titled “NIMBO Basemaps - 10m”NIMBO’s online Basemaps deliver global, cloud-free composites updated monthly, based on Sentinel-2 imagery, at 10m/px resolution. It is the foundation of all NIMBO products, optimized for GIS integration and analytics.
Key features
Section titled “Key features”| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Monthly refresh | Global satellite mosaics updated every month |
| Cloud-free imagery | Clouds and shadows automatically removed |
| Multiple spectral layers | RGB, NIR, NDVI, and RADAR (VV/VH) |
| Pixel traceability layer | Additional band showing when each pixel was last observed |
| Harmonized global coverage | Seamless mosaics at 10 m/pixel resolution |
| GIS-ready access | TMS & WMTS integration for all GIS and web-mapping tools |
About the Traceability Layer
Section titled “About the Traceability Layer”Each monthly mosaic includes a traceability layer indicating pixel age relative to the month displayed. It helps assess whether a pixel truly belongs to the current period or to a previous one.
| Color / Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 🟩 0 | Pixel acquired during the current month |
| 🟨 1 | Pixel reused from the previous month |
| 🟥 2 | Pixel reused from two months earlier |
💡 This layer ensures temporal transparency — you always know where the image is truly up-to-date.

Typical use cases
Section titled “Typical use cases”- Environmental dashboards & monitoring
- Agricultural and vegetation analysis
- Urban footprint and land-use change detection
- Data fusion for AI/ML models
NIMBO HD 2.5 m (Super-Resolution)
Section titled “NIMBO HD 2.5 m (Super-Resolution)”The Nimbo HD product enhances Sentinel-2 imagery from 10 m to 2.5m resolution, using advanced deep-learning models trained on millions of examples of high-resolution satellite imagery.
This process called super-resolution improves fine spatial details, while preserving realistic color balance.
Key features
Section titled “Key features”| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| AI-based enhancement | Deep super-resolution models trained on global datasets |
| RGB only | Natural-color composite at 2.5m resolution |
| Monthly global coverage | Each NImbo HD mosaic corresponds to the 10m basemap of the same date |
| Confidence layer | Optional map quantifying local uncertainty of Nimbo HD production |
| GIS-ready | TMS/WMTS access identical to 10m data |
About the Confidence Layer
Section titled “About the Confidence Layer”Each Nimbo HD satellite mosaic is paired with a confidence layer, expressing the model’s confidence for each pixel (from 0 → 1). This helps identify areas where the AI model had limited information (e.g. clouds, low texture).
| Value range | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0.8 – 1.0 | High confidence — very reliable details |
| 0.5 – 0.8 | Medium confidence — acceptable reconstruction |
| < 0.5 | Low confidence — limited detail or potential artifacts |
💡 Use this layer to mask or color-code uncertain areas in analytical workflows.

NIMBO Terrain (DEM)
Section titled “NIMBO Terrain (DEM)”NIMBO Terrain includes DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data complementing optical satellite products by describing the Earth’s topography.
It merges multiple open elevation sources (Copernicus DEM, RGE ALTI, SRTM, and national datasets) into a consistent model.
Key features
Section titled “Key features”| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Global coverage | Continuous DEM at 2–30 m resolution |
| Standard access | Same TMS/WMTS access pattern as other NIMBO layers |
| Seamless integration | Perfect for 3D views, shading, slope or hydrological analyses |
Example:
