Credits and attribution

Use this page as the reference for crediting NIMBO content in reports, presentations, screenshots, exported images and derived analyses.

It also explains which static client deliverables are covered by Pro and Pro HD, and which uses require an Enterprise agreement.

For NIMBO products derived from Copernicus Sentinel data, use the following credit:

NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data [YEAR].

Replace [YEAR] with the year of the NIMBO imagery used. Do not leave the placeholder in the published deliverable.

This attribution applies to NIMBO imagery products such as:

  • NIMBO RGB basemaps;
  • NIR and NDVI layers;
  • NIMBO HD;
  • NIMBO Radar;
  • Traceability or confidence layers when displayed or used in a deliverable.
NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2026.
NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2021 and 2026.
NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2021–2026.

Derived analysis without a visible satellite image

Section titled “Derived analysis without a visible satellite image”
Source data: NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2021–2026.

Use the year displayed in the NIMBO layer or mosaic used in the deliverable.

  • For one image, use that image’s year.
  • For a before-and-after comparison, include both years.
  • For a time series, list the covered years or use a clear year range.
  • For a custom Enterprise data delivery, use the attribution supplied with the delivery.

The attribution must be visible, readable and clearly associated with the NIMBO content.

DeliverableRecommended placement
Map in a PDF reportIn the map legend, figure caption or footer of the same page
NIMBO screenshotDirectly below the screenshot or inside its caption
Image in a presentationOn the same slide as the image
Printed mapIn the legend or credits area of the map
Static web page or articleNext to the image or in its visible caption
Video or timelapseIn the video credits and, where possible, in the description
Derived chart, table or analysisIn the methodology, data sources or figure note

Do not rely only on a general credit at the end of a long report when individual maps or images may be extracted and reused separately.

The text may be small, but it must remain legible at the normal viewing or printing size of the deliverable.

Static client deliverables with Pro and Pro HD

Section titled “Static client deliverables with Pro and Pro HD”

Pro and Pro HD may be used by one licensed user for professional analysis, monitoring, planning and decision-making.

The licensed user may also provide clients with fixed, non-interactive outputs containing NIMBO content.

ScenarioPro / Pro HD
Map included in a PDF report
NIMBO screenshot included in a report
Exported image included in a presentation
Printed map
Static before-and-after comparison
Chart, statistic or written conclusion derived from NIMBO
Static analytical map supplied as part of a report

All these uses require the applicable NIMBO and source-data attribution.

The following uses are not included in Pro or Pro HD:

ScenarioRequired right
Client accesses an interactive NIMBO map or dashboardClient-facing integration
NIMBO is embedded in a customer portal or web applicationClient-facing integration
NIMBO is embedded in a product sold or licensed to customersProduct integration / OEM
Several employees or users share the serviceMulti-user Enterprise access
A client receives TMS, WMS, WMTS or API accessService redistribution
A client receives GeoTIFF, COG, tiles or source raster filesData delivery
NIMBO imagery or access is resold or sublicensedResale / redistribution
A reusable derived dataset is supplied to a clientData delivery or specific agreement
NIMBO imagery is published in advertising or made broadly available to the publicEnterprise or written permission

Derived analysis or reusable derived dataset?

Section titled “Derived analysis or reusable derived dataset?”

This distinction determines whether Pro or Pro HD is sufficient.

A derived analysis communicates a conclusion without delivering an independent data product.

Examples include:

  • a written interpretation;
  • a statistic or KPI;
  • a chart or table;
  • a fixed map in a report;
  • a before-and-after figure;
  • a recommendation based on NIMBO imagery.

These outputs may be supplied to clients under Pro or Pro HD, with attribution.

A reusable derived dataset can be loaded, queried, processed or redistributed independently of the report in which it was created.

Examples include:

  • GeoJSON, Shapefile or GeoPackage files;
  • GeoTIFF or raster change products;
  • vector layers extracted from NIMBO imagery;
  • downloadable databases;
  • map tiles;
  • an API returning derived spatial data.

Supplying these assets to a client requires an Enterprise agreement or specific written permission.

NIMBO Terrain is built from several global and national elevation datasets. Its attribution therefore depends on the source dataset used for the relevant geographical area.

Do not use the Copernicus Sentinel attribution alone for NIMBO Terrain.

At minimum:

  1. credit NIMBO Terrain by KERMAP;
  2. add the attribution required by the underlying elevation source;
  3. use the source information listed on the NIMBO Terrain documentation page.

Where Copernicus WorldDEM-30 data have been adapted or modified, use the notice specified in the NIMBO Terrain documentation:

Produced using Copernicus WorldDEM-30 © DLR e.V. 2010–2014 and © Airbus Defence and Space GmbH 2014–2018 provided under COPERNICUS by the European Union and ESA; all rights reserved.

Other areas may use national elevation sources with their own attribution requirements. Always check the Terrain source table before publishing the output.

When a map combines NIMBO satellite imagery with NIMBO Terrain, include both:

  1. the NIMBO / Copernicus Sentinel imagery credit;
  2. the applicable NIMBO Terrain and elevation-source credit.

Example structure:

Imagery: NIMBO by KERMAP. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data 2026.
Terrain: NIMBO Terrain by KERMAP. [Applicable elevation-source credit].
  • Keep the attribution visible and legible.
  • Credit both NIMBO and the applicable source datasets.
  • Replace [YEAR] with the correct year or years.
  • Use the attribution associated with the specific NIMBO product used.
  • Do not imply that KERMAP, Copernicus, the European Union or ESA endorses your work.
  • Do not remove attribution because an image has been cropped, restyled or annotated.
  • Do not share a NIMBO account, token or map-service URL with a client under Pro or Pro HD.
  • Attribution does not grant resale, redistribution, OEM or data-delivery rights.

Can I include a NIMBO map in a client report?

Section titled “Can I include a NIMBO map in a client report?”

Yes. Pro and Pro HD allow static client deliverables such as maps in PDF reports, provided the required attribution is visible.

Can I use a NIMBO screenshot in a presentation?

Section titled “Can I use a NIMBO screenshot in a presentation?”

Yes. Place the attribution on the same slide as the screenshot or in a clearly associated caption.

Can I send a derived analysis to a client?

Section titled “Can I send a derived analysis to a client?”

Yes, when the output is a static conclusion, chart, table, figure or report. A reusable spatial dataset requires Enterprise or a specific agreement.

Not under Pro or Pro HD. Interactive client access requires an Enterprise agreement.

Can I crop the attribution out of a screenshot?

Section titled “Can I crop the attribution out of a screenshot?”

You may crop or format the image, but you must add the required attribution to the final deliverable.

No. NIMBO is the processed product used in the deliverable, so both NIMBO and the applicable Copernicus source notice must be credited.

For NIMBO products based on Sentinel data, use the standard Copernicus Sentinel notice shown on this page. Some other products, including certain Terrain sources, may require a longer source-specific notice mentioning ESA or other institutions.

Contact NIMBO before publication or delivery. We can confirm the appropriate attribution and usage rights for your project.
